Sometimes you just need a little extra coaxing and prodding in order to get some things done in life.
Awhile back, my mentor from college, Debbie, jotted me a text and basically said, "Hey. You should submit some of your writing to this one particular website."
My response back was somewhere along the lines of "a nice thought, but no." Insecurities have a very unpleasant way of short-circuiting opportunities in life.
She prodded some more, and I gave it some more thought, and decided to give a shot.
I cleaned up some pieces I had written previously and submitted to Gospel-Centered Discipleship. I honestly thought it would go nowhere, and when I submitted my first piece and didn't hear back from the editor for what felt like far too long, my Negative Nancy mindset hovered somewhere around, "Agh. It's such a terrible work they don't even know how to gently tell me or even how to salvage the piece."
But lo, and behold, I finally heard back from them and they decided to published the piece, and two others since. That was a fun moment for me to see something I had written reach a wider audience, to be out there for the world to read. And to realize I needed to get over myself.
So, thank you, Debbie, for the kick in the pants. :-)
